A new study has reignited one of the internet’s oldest debates: who talks more during the day — women or men?

For years, a popular claim circulating online suggested that women speak around 20,000 words per day, while men use only about 7,000 — creating a gap of more than 13,000 words daily. But according to recent scientific research, the reality appears far more nuanced.

Researchers from University of Arizona found that women between the ages of 25 and 64 speak, on average, around 3,000 more words per day than men — not 13,000 as previously claimed. Outside that age group, the difference was found to be minimal or statistically insignificant.

An earlier study published in the journal Science also concluded that men and women use nearly the same number of words each day, averaging about 16,000 words each.

Experts say communication differences are influenced far more by personality, profession, age, and social situations than by gender alone.

So, science suggests the gap may not be as dramatic as many people believe. But what do you think?
